This Tuesday and Wednesday evenings Takodah Volunteers will be reaching out to camp families for our annual BOOST TAKODAH campaign. Monies raised will support facility improvements at Camp Takodah.
Takodah is an old camp. Our oldest facilites go back to 1919, when the building that serves as our Hobby Nook was moved up from Royalston, MA, where it had previously been a dance hall. Upon its arrival, the building became our first Dining Hall. Back then campers brought their own tin cup, plate, and silverware to camp with them along with their clothes, bedroll, and a towel.
Last year we used BOOST TAKODAH funds to install new lighting, flooring, and bracing in TPAC. We also worked hard to put up new railings at the waterfront, rebuild the waterfront steps, and re-glaze old and damaged windows on TPAC and Hobby Nook.
This year’s funds will support some more important projects. We hope to replace the siding and decking on Memorial Lodge, finish re-roofing the Birches, move ahead with landscaping upgrades to the central camp area, and work to replace some of our aging camp vehicles. Additionally, we are working to construct a new village on the North side of the ropes course that will feature an athletic field, six new cabins, a new bathhouse, and upgrades for our secondary waterfront at Davis Field. These upgrades will allow us to run separate, concurrent camps for Boys and Girls for the first time in Takodah’s history!
