Hello Takodians! My name is Carlie Fischer, and I’m thrilled to be joining the full-year Takodah team as the Assistant Camp Director.

I fell in love with Takodah in 2000 when I debuted as a Mini Camper, and since then I haven’t missed a summer. I grew up at Girls Camp, and I’ve always considered Richmond my hometown, despite living in multiple towns, provinces, countries, and on both coasts. I’ve held a number of positions at Takodah, all of which have been simultaneously remarkably challenging and fulfilling. Most notably, I’ve worked as a Cabin Leader in all divisions, the Monadnock Division Head, the Leadership Development Director, and the North Camp Director. I was also one of only five female staff members to brave the first-ever session of North Camp in 2012, and since then I’ve had the privilege of watching the program develop and flourish. Even though I’m a Takodah lifer, 2017 will mark my first summer being part of the Boys Camp team, and I’m so excited to learn more about the other side of Takodah!

As is the case for so many of you, I’ve made the strongest, most substantial connections of my life at Takodah. Further, my experiences in the Leadership Development Program and on staff have sparked a passion for youth work and mental healthcare. As such, I’m currently in the final stages of completing my Bachelor of Arts in psychology and English at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. Like any other spring though, my bags are already half-packed and I’m counting down the days until I get to load up my car and make the trek home to Richmond. See you soon!

Carlie is officially starting full-time at Camp Takodah around May 1. Until then, please contact Ryan Reed, Camp Director, for assistance with summer camp.
