Last Day

Last night camp celebrated the ending of our two week session with our CT Ceremony.  To commemorate their time here at camp, every camper and staff member received a CT patch.  Also our Cherokee division head Elizabeth Snide received her 10 Year Jacket in honor of her ten years at camp.  Now the girls have one day left to have as much fun as possible, and it's finally warm enough to really enjoy being outside at camp.  It may still be overcast, but there's no sign that our last day will get rained out.  Today for lunch we will be having Pizza and for dinner we have Turkey.  We'll see all you parents tomorrow morning. 

Coming Down the Home Stretch

Cabaret is always a bitter sweet evening program.  While it is one of the most fun and entertaining events at camp, it also signals that the end of camp is almost here.  With only two days left in camp, the girls are anxious to cram in as much fun as possible, be it playing their favorite game one more time, finishing up a project in the Hobby Nook, or trying out something completely new and different.  Even the over cast skies and chilly weather can slow them down.  Today for lunch we will be having grilled cheese and for dinner we will have beef stroganoff.

We don't need the Sun to have Fun

It may be overcast and chilly but that doesn't slow down Camp Takodah.  Girls are still running around the field playing sports, the Kiln and candling are keeping Hobby Nook warm, and its actually warmer in Cass Pond then it is out of it, so campers have no problem swimming.  Today we have our two times Tuesday afternoon, when ever leader in camp offers two hours worth of activities for girls to sign up for.  Then tonight we have Cabin Night, when every cabin in camp spends the entire evening together doing their own activities.  For lunch today we have a make your own sandwich buffet and for dinner we have sweet and sour chicken and pork. 

Developing Body, MIND, and Spirit

Never has the developing the mind part of the YMCA slogan been more apparent then with last night's Mathmadics evening program.  With all the girls in camp dressed as nerds, we spent the evening playing Math and Strategy games such as Blockus and Sudoku.  Earlier in the day, campers signed up for a whole new week of classes, classes which they will be beginning today.  After a full day of new classes the we will hold the themed Thanksgiving Night.  The weather forecast for today is the same as it has been for the past few days, chilly and sunny.  We will be having Tacos for lunch and for Ravioli for dinner.

Half Way Through

Last Night our entire camp got a face lift with our Extreme Makeover Cabin Edition evening program.   The event was exciting, fun, and something we had never done at camp before.  However, today is a day of more traditional camp fun as we hold our Blue and White day competition.  Today the entire camp will be split into two teams and go head to head with each other up on the sports fields and down at the water front.  Even though the weather is cold and windy the excitement of the afternoon and the bright sun will keep the camp warm. 

This evening we will have another camp tradition as we hold our camp movie night, giving the girls a relaxing evening after all the excitement of blue and white day.  For lunch today we will be having hot dogs and for dinner we have a BBQ buffet. 

Dancing the Night Away

Last night we had one of our most fun evening programs in recent memory as we had a live Contra Band come and play for our campers and lead them through a number of dances.  While half of the camp Contra Danced down in Memorial Lodge, the other half was up in our Preforming Art Center learning some more contemporary dance steps.  Everyone involved had a blast dancing all night long. 

Today for lunch and dinner we will be having a Pizza Buffet and Fajitas respectively.  Then the girls are in for some extreme fun with our extreme makeover night. 

Another Sunny Day at Takodah

Our first week continues with more bright sun and cool breeze.  You couldn't ask for more pleasant weather.  Now the campers are half way through their first week of classes, with swimming and athletics classes showing off their new skills and art and nature classes beginning to develop long term projects.  For lunch and dinner the girls will be having a hamburger buffet and lasagna respectively.  Then to finish the day off we have our Step Up evening program, and night full of dance parties and lessons, including line dancing, contra dancing, hip hop, and even the South African Gumboots dancing.
