The Takodah Difference

Professional Role Models

While our campus and activities are impressive, our camp staff is the most important part of bringing summer camp to life. That’s why we recruit cabin leaders who are caring, mature and well-trained role models. What sets us apart is that nearly all of our cabin leaders are former campers and leadership program graduates—and they give Takodah a great sense of tradition, community and continuity.

Friendly-to-All Community

“Friendly to All” is our motto and way of life—it’s how longtime and new campers alike become a tightknit family almost immediately. It guides how we live, work and play together. It helps us learn and grow in a place where we feel comfortable being ourselves.

Single Gender Setting

Although we serve both boys and girls at the same time, we feature a single-gender setting where boys and girls literally don’t see each other at camp. Our single-gender programs provide well-rounded childhood experiences, especially for kids in co-ed school environments. We break down stereotypes, get rid of social pressures and free campers to be themselves. Without needing to impress others and seek attention from opposite sex, campers can be themselves and focus on their own interests.

Progressive Programming

Takodah features a progressive program that fits the individualized needs of each camper. In the mornings, campers choose weeklong classes designed to help them build skills in certain activities. As campers achieve goals in their classes, their feelings of success lead to courage, confidence and self-respect. In the afternoons, campers enjoy “camper choice,” where they can choose from many different activities that help them broaden their horizons and discover their passions.

Character Development

Everything we do is about helping campers discover who they are and what they can achieve. In addition to helping campers grow in friendships, courage and character, we instill the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all campers.

Tech-Free Environment

The average kid spends 50 hours in front of a screen every week. In our tech-free programs, campers build strong relationships and feel a sense of belonging. With the support of friends and counselors, campers find the courage and character to achieve their full potential.

Program Excellence

Not only is Takodah consistently voted Best Overnight Camp in New Hampshire, but we’re also accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), meaning that we have undergone a thorough review of our operation—from staff qualifications to emergency management. Our partnership with the ACA guarantees that our campers experience growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.

Scenic Campus

Takodah is nestled along the shores of Cass Pond in the heart of the stunning Monadnock Region. With over 500 acres of pristine forests and open fields, living at camp is rustic, yet safe and comfortable—just like summer camp should be. Cozy cabins, a state-of-the-art dining hall and impressive program areas blend beautifully into our natural setting. Featuring one of New England’s nicest waterfronts, there’s nowhere better to spend a summer.
